Complete application instructions and on-line forms are available from the Graduate School. Alternatively you can email our departmental the Graduate Admissions Coordinator requesting an applications packet. Remember to include your regular mailing address in the request. Whether you submit materials to the Graduate School or the Department of Atmospheric Sciences is irrelevant: everything you submit will be collected at the Department of Atmospheric Sciences who will screen and select the applicants.
We encourage applications from U.S. citizens and applications from international students. As we usually only admit students to our program in the Fall semester, we prefer that completed applications are received before 1 February of the intended year of admission. Late applications may be accepted, but graduate research assistanceships may no longer be available. Selection of successful applicants takes place in early March.
All applications are reviewed by the Graduate Student Admissions Committee of the Department of Atmospheric Science. This Committee makes recommendations to the Department as to whom to invite to join our program. The Committee evaluates the credentials of the applicants within the context of the available graduate assistanceship vacancies prior to making their selections. As the number of funded vacancies is often limited, the selection process is competitive, so that not all qualified applicants can necessarily be admitted. We aim to notify successful applicants by mid-March, though some applicants may receive a late offer of acceptance. Every offer of admission is subject to approval by the Graduate School of the University. In common with other Atmospheric Science Departments, we expect that candidates to whom we have extended an offer will notify us of their intentions by April 15th, and that those candidates will adhere to their decisions. Candidates may wish to contact individual Faculty members, to discuss their research interests.
